RIP Kitty. :(

Sad update here. Today it will be two weeks since our little Kitty was mauled to death by the neighbor's dog. What happened is that we cracked the windows (there were screens) about an inch to let the cool breeze in. Normally, she would sit in the windowsill & enjoy the scenery. Never in her life had she made an attempt to get through the window or push the screen.

I guess this time the call of adventure was too strong for her and she pushed the screen to break it. She was gone. I was home sick with a stomach bug so I was fast asleep. I had no idea she had even gotten out. We didn't even notice that she was gone until H got home & asked where she was. So we went out looking until 2am. We shook the treat bag & called. I knew though, that if she didn't come by sundown that there was a major problem.

It turns out her little body was in the neighbor's garage the entire night we were looking. Around 5pm they came out to tend to their garden & discovered Kitty's battered body in the garden. The dogs attacked her and it is our belief that she tried to hide in the garden. The vet believes (after he examined her body) that the same thing would have happened to Pumpkin if he hadn't gotten away. Thankfully Dr. V believes that her end was quick, and most of the damage was done postmortem. I am thankful that she passed on quickly & was not there to feel pain.

We know it was a freak accident and that she meandered into their yard. She was an indoor cat who didn't know any better. The dogs have broken our fence a bunch of times, & gotten out to run wild in the neighbor before, but Animal Control can't do anything because Kitty got into their yard.

In any event we had her cremated & her ashes came back last week. We put them in the honorary spot where she would normally eat her kibble. We are having a very hard time coping, but slowly we are recovering.

Pumpkin is doing really great. He had the surgery on his front paw & is recovering marvelously. He did go about the house searching for Kitty. They got to know each other and enjoy each others' company. So it was really sad to watch him cry for her and search for her all over the house. Emmit looked too, poor little dog.

We are hurting, but we know that Kitty is in a peaceful place on the other side of The Rainbow Bridge. She has all the warm blankets, warm laps & lovely treats. We will see her again.
